Vancouver Fashion Week Day 2 - Designers on the Rise

Vancouver, a city that reigns in athlesiure, continues to impress with the invitation of world-class up-and-coming designers. Thank you to the organizers of Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) for inviting me! Thanks also to my @Betches writing extraordinaire, Simrin Purhar, for joining me. Here is a synopsis of my experience and my favourite designers of the night:

Experience

Walking into Vancouver’s historic Chinatown on VFWSS, I began to notice well-put-together fashionistas heading in the same direction through the beautiful red gates of the Chinese Cultural Centre to the fashion week venue. On the way, a lovely photographer stopped to take our street-style looks for the evening. I opted for a semi-coordinated outfit featuring a matching white pant and top with pink pointed toe heels and a pink wool coat topped off with a red Prada handbag. I matched my red handbag to my lipstick to seal the deal. With mainly Fall colours, being beige, black, and browns, I wanted to do something more daring while sticking to a semi-coordinated theme. Simrin opted for a matching grey Armani pant suit with a black top underneath and black heels. How much more #GirlBoss can you get?

As we were running a tad late, the spots on the ground floor were filled up but we had an even better view in our seats above the main hall. It was exciting to see the attendees and all the different street-styles looks that filled the seats. From embellished disco dresses to Tika The Iggy’s amazing flower dress, it will be a night I won’t forget. She is even cooler in person BTW!

Julianne Daisy

Julianne Daisy is a sustainable women’s fashion brand hailing from Korea which is inspired by the romantiscm of vintage clothing and Southern California. The clothing is ultra feminine, whimsical, and has an attention to detail that gives it an elegant yet youthful finish. This designer stood out from the pack with a line up of back-to-back cohesive and polished looks. The young models and youthful feminine garments give you a “house on the prairie” meets Teen Vogue spin on bohemian going-out wear. I could see these garments on fashion influencers around the globe once Spring field photoshoots start again in April. Follow the brand on instagram @julianne_daisy.official to stay in the loop on their recent launches and check out their site to order!

The main looks included flowery patterned dresses with lace collars, pastel pink skirt suits, pleated dresses with flower appliqués, grey and pink wool coats, and patterned tulle sets. The high necklines, youthful pastel colours, and added details give the looks a whimsical effect.

ank by amrit

Ank by Amrit stole the show as the closer of Saturday night’s Vancouver Fashion Week. The brand was founded in 2016 by Amrit Kaur, who focuses on Indian craftsmanship and bridal wear with a modern edge. The brand is a made-to-order Atelier that will not disappoint. The looks sported on the runway were chic with exciting patterns paired with luxurious silk fabrics. The unique muted yet rich colour choices have the look of a cohesive curated feel. Many of the chosen colours are those which we have seen on the runways this year with muted deep blues, paisley greens, burnt orange, and saturated mustard yellows that allow the patterns to shine through. With time, I believe these looks will be found on your favourite supermodels hitting the red carpet.

The looks included matching power suits with an elegant and daring edge from the silk and glittery fabric, plunging v-necklines, and matching maxi skirt sets with bandeau, crop sleeved and wrap tops. The collection was not overly fitted which allowed the garments to sway and the silk to shine through with movement. Carefully chosen lines of the garments especially the v-necklines reminded me of Diane Von Furstenburg with a twist. Added touches of minuscule straps and pleats allowed the looks to have further impact.

I would suggest checking out this designer if you are looking for exceptional craftsmanship and simultaneously elegant and daring one-of-a-kind looks.

Let me know what you think of the collections down in the comments!
