FIGURA FATALE'S FALL 2021 STYLE PLAYBOOK

Every year fashion magazines broadcast to the fashion community the newest trends that will hit the runway each fall. What they don’t tell you is how to create wearable styles yourself, which is where I come in.

Some of the trends we have seen in 2021 so far have been 90s-inspired Americana fashion with the revival of Van Dutch and True Religion, loud 70s-inspired prints and patterns, exposed seams, loose-fit denim, and lots of cut outs. Some of these trends may not be for everyone, but I can assure you the looks featured below will have you feeling confident and projecting New York blogger next-door vibes.

#1 pair Tailored coats and blazers with knee-high boots & embellished heels

Tailored coats and blazers are a go-to for fall! They are versatile and pair well with a variety of boots - everything from platforms and Doc Martens to knee-high white boots. If you want to amp up your look for a night out, add a pair of embellished heels to the look (think Mach & Mach bow heels and Amina Muaddi Amina crystal heels). Embellished heels have been on trend for 2021 and will likely continue into the fall/winter months with holidays such as Christmas and New Years approaching. In addition to embellished heels, chain link heels are coming in strong for Fall with Versace and Jimmy Choo taking the lead. Strappy heels will also continue to be a popular style, although they are better suited to the Spring and Summer months, in my opinion.

#2 aDD Opera gloves and tights to accentuate your fall outfits

Following the icon Audrey Hepburn’s style secret of added accessories, we have seen opera gloves pop up in Cardi B’s “WAP” video, and Marc Jacobs and Valentino’s Fall 2021 collections. I suggest pairing these gloves with dresses, matching sets and tailored winter coats. Opting for black, white, or leather gloves will give you the most wearability. Don’t be shy in adding rings and bracelets as accessories on top of the gloves to make a statement. My favourite styles involve pushing the boundaries in subtle ways that curate a distinct style. Following this vein, tights will also come back as the perfect accessory to a short skirt or dress on chilly fall day (think Gucci’s black and white tights which are a blogger’s favourite).

#4 choose dresses that are slightly Embellished and have ASYMMETRICAL necklines

Fashion houses such as Mirror Palais are becoming TikTok famous with their structured slightly embellished mini dresses. This will be a continuing fashionable style in the next year along with asymmetrical necklines that have taken over. I love the asymmetrical neckline as it shows a demure yet striking amount of skin. It adds a touch of creativity that can be eye-catching especially when paired with the cutout trend I mentioned above. Some other trends that I have seen include chainmail and satin dresses coming back on the scene. For how long? It can’t be certain.

#5 THE Puffer coat is here to stay - Rick Owens to Tna

From Moncler and Rick Owens to Aritzia, the beloved puffer coat will reign king this fall. I recommend opting for puffer in a neutral colour like black, white, beige, or silver. I am also expecting to see a lot of vegan leather puffer jackets showing up on the runway, which could be a good choice if you like to make a statement and pair your coats with dresses. Believe me when I say, “Staying warm never looked so good!”

#6 CHOOSE MATCHING SETS IN SATURATED COLOURS FOR A PUT-TOGETHER LOOK THAT STANDS OUT

I have seen lots of examples of matching saturated tailored pants and blazers being a mainstay for this fall. Specifically I see aquamarine/cerulean blue, fuchsia, and lime green dominating matching tailored sets for those who love to stand out. However, opting for neutral colours will likely allow you to pair the set with other items, so the choice is yours!

Let me know in the comments what styles you will be wearing this fall!
